Greenspan's death (car wreck) was rumored 2 years ago. The rumor surfaced midday and the markets shot straight up on the news. About 30 minutes later CNBC confirmed it was a rumor and the markets dropped back to prerumor levels.

Since Greenspan is up for reappointment next year, I would guess that we will find out, as it seems to me unlikely that this Administration will reappoint him unless absolutely forced by the markets to do so.
