Batteries (and what they are made of)are what is unique to and electric car, not copper use. You current car is already full of copper(*starter motor, alternator, wiring, electronics)
Real copper use comes from heavy industry where motors and generators can weigh hundreds of pounds and copper pipes stretch for thousands of feet.

The idea that GMs "Volt" will be a roaring success is very premature. GM is way behind the curve in that department and prone to lots of over inflated hype.

The Volt will not go very far as sales go. It is going to sell for $41,000 min. No body wants to get transportation with out much more, just to get from A to B.

You can buy a good used car for around $6,000, and it would have alot of goodies with it. The other $35,000 would buy a lot of gas in the mean time.

Think about it. You could buy it for cash, even on your credit card and pay it off the next Mo.

The Volt will be worthless by the time you bought that much gas and you would have had to replace the bateries a couple of times by then at a hefty price.

So your $6,000 car would also be worthless by then. Sell it or trade it in and buy another Used car with all the goodies. Makes sence to me.

The new Volt has no more copper in it than any other car.

Look up Copper river in Alaska. It is not that scarce as you think, and we own it.
