TSTC - I think it has to do more with what technology the carrier uses. For example, for voice tech AT&T and T-Mobile uses GSM while Verizon and Virgin Mobile uses CDMA. Then there is data - GPRS, CDMA2000, EV-DO are some of the common ones.
