With failure of M74, Representative Buckley to introduce dispensary system

Back in late September, I reported on Representative Peter Buckley's intent to propose a legalization bill in January 2011 to the legislature. However, with the failure of the Regulated Medical Marijuana Supply System, Measure 74, in conjunction with the failure of Proposition 19 in California, Representative Buckley has decided to pursue a legislative proposal for a medical marijuana supply system.

The Examiner spoke with Representative Buckley's office today and confirmed that he will be proposing a regulated medical marijuana supply system to the legislature in January instead, and his office reported that he is interested in reviewing proposed language for the proposed system. Interested parties are encouraged to contact Representative Buckley's office with suggestions, concerns and comments, as well as any proposed language for the supply system.

The recent election and voter pamphlet statements made it apparent that medical marijuana patients in Oregon are in need of a regulated supply source for their medical marijuana needs; the controversy is solely in the details. This Examiner remains hopeful that the legislature will adopt a system that meets the needs of patients in Oregon and the general public.
