#2185 RE: Elmer Phud #2184

Elmer, hopefully everybody is a little happy with the way the market has been over the past week or so (except the short sellers, of course <VBG>). I know I've recovered about 33% of my portfolio since my lows. :-)

We're also entering a very bullish time of year. The rally might be sustainable, so long as there is no terribly bad news.

So now that the mood has improved, I have a little AMD news for the thread.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/story.html?id=1036185518

According to XBitlabs, AMD might actually be launching a 2600+ processor with a faster front side bus, but lower frequency. While the FSB will be 166MHz, the frequency will be 2.0GHz or 2.08GHz. Just speculation, but I wonder if AMD is having problems binning out chips at 2.13GHz, and instead has decided to supply their launched model number will a lower frequency chip that performs in the same range. A quick check on Pricewatch confirms that nearly all vendors are claiming mid November ship dates for 2600+ parts, so availability is still almost not existent.

Elmer,

re: Here's an idea for you. What about an AMD/SUN merger? Both companies are in the toilet. SUN needs a competitive processor and AMD needs a big name server win.

Could be.

Two desperate companies. Would the whole be bigger than the sum of the parts (I may not have that quote right)?
