If by 'pants' you mean trousers, SM, they didn't wear them when I lived there, except for sports. However, under our skirts in the wintertime, we always wore 'snuggies', soft flannel leggings that went down beneath our skirts to just above our knees and kept us nice and warm without wearing trousers.
I remember coming home from Norway (where everyone at that time was blond or off-blond, neither fat nor thin, with the attractive, regular, rather squarish heads and features of the blue-eyed Teutonic races, and being startled seeing in the street by so many people who were black and yellow and all shades of brown as well as white; there were fat people, skinny people, big people, small people, brown-eyed people, black-haired people, round people, flat people and cylindrical people. I was stunned by the variety of the human race that inhabited my native land. I had forgotten over all those years away. . .
