wbmw, yesterday Rivet mentioned ones Fab36 is loaded there would be a lot of interest in Fab30 and that they were looking at all possibilities to keep Fab30 utilized. From how I interpreted it he also downplayed Chartered a bit which I find not surprising now Dell said no. All in all I think AMD does acknowledge it is likely that at least not all of Fab30 will be used for AMD cpu's once Fab36 reaches full capacity.

wbmw -

Does anyone besides Doug see this realistically happening? If not, what will AMD do with all this capacity?

Well, I don't subscribe to the wildly optimistic scenerio you are putting in Doug's mouth. (I don't know if he does either.)

Dual core products will have larger dies. Also, if AMD ever gets enough capacity to supply more Tier 1 companies then we will see the theory tested - you know, the one that says AMD needs larger capacity to get volume design wins.

Last point - even with the new fab, Intel's huge capacity build dwarfs anything AMD is doing. What's up with that? Still haven't figured it out.

Something to do with volume Itaniums and TV technologies...

wbmw AMD capacity

They may or may not achieve the capcities you suggest. I don't think they will in the suggested time frame.

Regarding what they will do with the extra capacity they do have?

50/15 is a logical start.
