It is not a pure water solution that is added.

it is a solution that comes with the unit, added just once for the life of the unit,, From what I was told you can double it up and it would be able to go even colder,,

MN is a beautiful place, I tell people everyone should visit the BWCA at least once in their lifetime.

I agree distilled water freezing at -40' does sound crazy but I'm just relaying what I've read, this is why I plan to test this theory in my freezer.
