Thanks, Mohave. After reading your posts, it looks like I'm not the only one with the issue.

I sent an email to Merrill regarding commissions on penny stocks. It took TWO WEEKS for them to reply only to tell me I need to call them for the information. I'm NOT impressed and will close my account after I sell off the holdings eventually.
