The Chinese are painfully aware of their current energy shortage as well as the larger shortage projected for the future. Last winter they had to ration electricity, natural gas and other energy. Many went cold and industrial production fell.

They want to secure their own sources of LNG so they are not blackmailed like western Europe has been by the Russians.

Another goal is to reduce air pollution by replacing coal with cleaner burning natural gas . Their expanding industrial base will require natural gas for fertilizer, plastics and other chemicals.

All of us want oil, but the Chinese will develop the natural gas to meet their domestic demands. JMHO Farrell
