I have looked at their resumes and they are pretty strong from a business point of view.

You have hit on a profound point here in your quote. What is it that this company was lacking. The managment skills, they have the intellect for engineering and scientific knowledge to produce the product but could not find a good fit for CEO (MANAGER).
This is brilliant in that the new company has a built in management team and structure To use my quote from earlier (Who are already on the bus and possibly in the correct seat). This would be a great marriage of management and technology.

I as well will hold and wait. This more fun than watching the $$'s getting pulled off of the craps table
