I've been thinking all weekend about this statement.

It won't speed up the decay rate, the half life will remain the same


Help me out here. The logic I'm using for claiming a faster decay rate is that radiation is a form of energy. When you store nuclear waste in a container, that energy is contained. But when electricity would be generated, and extracted from this container, the energy levels would drop, thereby speeding up the decay rate.

Is this a complete misunderstanding from me about nuclear decay rate?
