Vinnyh, a link I warmly suggest is versiontracker.com Search for antivirus. There will be some results with user ratings. I myself am pretty much ignorant at that. Don't use any. As far as utilities go I use DiskWorrior but there are other around including one from Appple built into the system you gonna get. It is called -great phantasy here- Disk utility.
Vinny....norton's still make a very good antivirus app for macs and keeps it updated with liveupdate.....however...a disc repair issue is another matter. There ARE other programs out there for disc repair that far exceed Norton's capabilities...so much so that Norton no longer supports mac with its Norton Utilities apps. I use DiskWarrier for hard drive repair.
I think you CAN buy Virex without a .mac membership....try the Apple Store online...or MacMall MacWarehouse, etc. You just want a little peace of mind...and most of the above names will do what you want.
