You needn't remind me about "popular belief" - I don't believe in it. It is painfully obvious to most that China is going through their own economic upheavels - most of which inter-twine with those of the "western world". That having been said, I do not think their unquenchable thirst for hydrocarbons would be noticeably impacted by almost anything in China save serious civil/governmental/military upset.
