This is a very hard contest to win and requires a lot of luck and good breaks in your favor and avoiding the bad breaks.
I Felt bad for DJ but wasn't surprised. Earlier in the week CBS/TNT had reprised Appleby's 4 stroke penalty in the 2004 PGA at the same course by him not knowing it was a bunker in play behind the ropes and he A. moved twigs for 2 strokes and B. grounded his club for another 2 strokes. Lost by 5 strokes at the end.
When DJ went in and first grounded his club I immediately thought "uh oh, this might be another Appleby".
Fair or unfair, I find it amazing that players don't read the local rules before a tournament, especially a major.
Only 8 months to the Masters!
