Well then he's as bad at buying stock as he is at running a company...he could have easily gotten those for half that price....

I don't think you can assume he bought them. He acquired them. Could have been in lieu of salary, as a bonus or some sort of loan repayment.
Certainly good to have insiders with large ownership, though with all the new shares, he appears to now be well below 10% and he used to be much higher.
