its funny i looked that up it a book awhile ago...The "whatever that means" book and steady as she blows was an expression that began in 1845 Feburary exactly in a small town in Kansas. The Mayors wife...Theresa Ann Jameson was known to like her medicinals especially Dr Savages Famous Alixer....She would be seen in church a little tipsy. During service the entire congragation would watch her blow out the devotional candles and they could often be heard saying..."steady as she blows" This saying eventually become known after she died and the Kansas State Consitution wrote an artilce about her and used this expression.
