Good Post 955 - Since I am not a material science guy / geologist I have always wondered what these pictures really represent. Everyone ohhh's and ahhh's over them but I never understood how to interpret them. Your post was the first post that actually made sense to me and hopefully we'll get a response from one of the folks on the board that are more familiar with this topic.
I'm no geologist, so this is just common sense speaking, but if you find a copper deposit I'm sure it's not PURE copper, which would apparently be 8.96cc. It would be bits of copper spread out among other rock, right? So you would see a significantly lower density based on the other rock not being nearly as dense as pure copper.
