My approach, or rather methodology, is to ride out the normal dips of the volatility that one wants to encounter, keeping an eye on the worth having index of the stock or mutual fund that I trade in. If then there is a development that makes owning the stock not worth having then I bail out. That is the StopLoss everyone ought to set for himself. How high or low you set this bailout limit is a personal matter.
