I've seen info related to your question on automotive apps for QD's... I seem to recall posting some info on this here, quite awhile ago...sorry, don't recall which post.
Yes; they are being investigated for uses in automotive paints...they serve to make paints more colorfast and stronger (scratch resistant) and make thin-coat applications possible. Could also give pearl-essence & metallics a whole new meaning IMO.
They are said to have a number of other automotive uses i.e; *Tires...for stronger structure & greater traction... *Shock absorbers... *Auto electronics...multiple apps from sensors & lighting to anything that uses semi-conductors... *Solar...on-board solar regeneration...perhaps even integrated into the paints...
