Yet what I have read from log home websites the cost is very close to stick built now.

There are a lot of different factors to compare.
So take that comment for what it's worth. LOL!

Whichever way I go I will be spending a chunk of change on solar power.

Solar costs have come way down and the tech smartwise has gone way up. Got to love that!
