Things are a little Hazy.....For ERHC's read on...

After four years since the first well, Nigeria's deepwater industry is finally settling down. New competitors have entered the play. Total Upstream Nigeria, the affiliate of Total-Fina is working the highly prospective lease OPL 246, with Total the technical partner to indigenous owner, Star Atlantic Petroleum. Petrobras is here, but details of what it has are still hazy. And there have been inquiries from South Africa's aggressive exploration company Energy Africa , and Malaysia's Petronas. Akpo Deepwater Discovery Disappoints Total
Total Fina Elf's much-hyped deepwater discovery in Nigerian oil prospecting license (OPL) 246 has turned out to be less significant than first thought.
According to information and documents compiled by Total, the two Akpo exploration wells drilled so far have found estimated reserves of 200 million barrels of crude and condensate in place.
This means that, as matters stands, the Akpo field is not in the same league as other major deepwater finds in West Africa. Indeed it is well below most previous estimates, some of which had suggested reserves of more than 1 billion bbl.

Akpo field is scheduled to come on stream in the first quarter of 2009. Akpo, discovered in year 2000, is coming on stream after Bonga, Erha and Agbami, as Nigeria’s deepwater continues to attract more investments. The field is located in OML 130, about 200 kilometres offshore Port Harcourt in water depths ranging from 1,100 to 1,700 meters.Â
The field development plan includes 22 producing wells, 20 water injection wells and two gas injection wells; tied back to a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel with a storage capacity of 2 million barrels, with reserves of 620 million barrels.
Akpo is expected to quickly reach peak production of 225,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, of which nearly 80 percent is condensate.Â
