The opening sentence of your post struck me:

In the US, if we use the word Zionist we are immediately attacked as being anti-Israel... maybe even anti-Semitic. President Obama wouldn't dare refer to Israel with that word, or even use it in a speach I reckon without being excoriated in the press, and not just the right. In reality, that is exactly what the current Israeli government is, by definition.
