I am also putting together a list of "gotta have" goodies for you so you don't leave home without them. I need it for myself as well because my memory isn't quite what it used to be...lol. You can survive with only one set of clothes (except socks) but doing without toilet paper is a nightmare. Simple chit like having a toothbrush that folds up and snaps shut so it doesn't taste like wet socks is a blessing, or having a thin nylon belt or rope for when your shoulder strap on your pack breaks (like mine did) will keep you from carrying your pack like a dead deer off the trail could save you from massive pain. Oh well, you get the idea. I will post a list in a few days.
Weight and bulk are your 2 biggest enemies on the trail. Go small and go light. Over 40 lbs and you suffer like hell.
