I thought Australia was founded by convicts.....

from England. They shipped their worst criminals to Australia. Everyone there has an ancestor who was a British prisoner. Quite a history. Read up on it....very interesting.

During WW2 they sent kids there from orphanages, and some of them had parents and were only in the orphanages temporarily. They were put to work building cities down under. No child labor laws - not back then anyway.
