Unfortunately, I didn't have $15K to invest when MSFT was issued.

A more realistic MSFT comparison for me is if I had invested the same $15K in MSFT on the same day I bought AAPL. If I had done that it would now be worth around $22K adjusted for splits and dividends.

I see AAPL has just matched and even exceeded MSFT market cap today for the first time, for whatever that implies.
