It seems like you are right. That makes it less useful to us though.

Your comment about "the school of hard knocks" reminds me a preacher who had no college degree. He was very good and successful, but people whould ask him "what college did you go to?"

He would reply "Oh, I did not go to college." and may would look down on him and it would lessen his credibility with them.

So, he wised up and his reply would be "I WENT TO THE HOLY GHOST SCHOOL OF PREACHING."

That usually shut them up.
