I asked about this at the beginning and have verified it as well. The reason for the .net instead of the .com is that the .com was already registered. From my understanding the person who has the .com is just sitting on it waiting for an insane amount of money. (not related to the company at all, just a domain squatter)
Happens all the time on the internet. Glad to know they didn't waste a bunch of money on a domain name.
