I'm giving the standard method used by virtually every company I've seen from Dow stocks all the way down.

Try opening up an earnings report some time. Look at that little number right at the bottom..... "weighted average number of shares."

Gee, what do you know, even a little known company called MICROSOFT reports earnings per share based on the weighted average number.
