Actually, it does say outstanding shares when it say $7 mil profit and $3/share. Simple math says 2.33 mil shares.

However, which I've repeated many times, that's a weighted average number (or at least should be).

You did not note what matters! What matters is earnings per share of $ 3 and profits of $ 7 mllion. That implies about 2.3 million shares outstanding.
