dnoto, following this line of thinking, as a perfect example of what happens when Lehman claims to be poor, New York state and the city are trying to get 44% of roughly 1.5 - 2 billion combined. They clearly said that they want to be in front of everyone else. If New York knew there was A>L, then do you think that they'd settle for 44%. No way! 100% baby! But, if they settle now, then they can't reverse it later. One less claim. So, LBHI settles as much as it can physically, then drops the bomb, that "Oh, yeah, we got A>L".
I wish that there was a way to know this and not have to guess.

I agree 100% with you that they are playing down the assets and hyping up the liabilities right now to get debtors to accept pennies on the dollar. The door is being left open for us with that new share of LAMCO being created so ultimately, we will benefit from this.
