AMEN to that! Gas prices were the biggest cause.
I have been preaching for years that a family no longer goes out to eat because they have to fill the gas tank. Another person would buy a new pair of shoes but has to use the money for gas. Now the restaraunt and the shoe store are hurting so they cut hours or maybe even lay off an employee. And the trend continues.
I will add this though, the mortgage companies did play a part. They over approved and lent to people for houses they couldnt afford. Most people were so excited to get approved for that 350k house, they forgot to take into count the taxes are now triple what they were paying, the utility to heat or cool the house is tripled because they went from a 1000 square foot home to a 3000 square foot, etc etc.
Ok, i'm done ranting. Lets go SKGO!
