Mobile ticketing may include a barcode. The barcode is scanned using special scanners. NeoMedia has sold the scanners but I am not clear if this is intended to be an on-going business. NeoMedia refers to the scanners as "legacy" systems but they are generating significant percent of their revenue from these systems.
There are a large number of patent application related to this technology and about as many start-ups with mobile couponing.
Mobile ticketing does not have a need for a clearinghouse.
There are still many security issues to fix, but I think we will quite a bit of this by the end of the year.
