If Thresher doesn't follow through on its recent statements about somebody willing to buy its stock at a penny a share, it could mean a lawsuit or criminal prosecution, said James Shaw, an investment consultant in Visalia. Shaw said he found it odd that information about the sale price was being distributed before the deal closes.
In 2008, the company touted plans to make a metal matrix material designed to absorb radiation from used nuclear fuel rods. The material was intended to protect radioactive waste during transport to storage facilities. There was talk of building a joint production facility in South Korea. But the plans suffered setbacks involving stringent government regulation of nuclear material in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
