you remember "heard on the street"? there were negative and positive ""bot and paid for recommendations" for specific energy stocks in that widely followed column. it became a big scandal when it was discovered as the guy was considered the guru on O&G..
those of us down here figured it out quickly because we knew the companies and had a better grasp of the business.
example: Old texas int'l co. was drilling miles offshore camaroon for oil. the release stated they had encountered hydrocarbons, but we knew it was NG, and he jumped all over it. problem was 0 infrastructure and 0 market therefore years and years to dollars....stock ran 10-12 points on his push only to fall 15 when the market rrealized such...his comment via phone call "hydrocarbons are hydrocarbons...so it is all good."
