The question is: can it play movies?

Apple's iPad like their iPods combine an easy ecosystem for buying content. I will take a look at the Classmate. I would like to put a permanent system in my son's apartment that I can use for logging into work. If the Classmate has a VGA or DVI output, then I can connect it to the big monitor and use it for work and use my MacBook Pro to watch the stock market. I was also looking for a very cheap PC for a security application. I'd like to hook up a pc to a video camera for surveillance and Classmate might do the trick if it is cheap enough.

iPAD versus classmate?
I really don't see these as competitors. iPAD is going to be the second or third device in a fairly affluent household. classmate is going to be the ONLY device in lower income households.
Sure, some people might buy the ipad as their only device, and some affluent people might buy a classmate as a second dedicated purpose computer or something, but I think most perchases will be as I described.
