With the current financial and political issues surrounding petroleum, many companies are working on alternative energy sources. Solar is becoming more and more popular, and there’s been introduction of green diesel. At this year’s West Coast Green, we spoke to a company introducing another option for renewable fuel.

Blest Company manufactures machines that recycle plastic into oil. These machines produce unrefined oil, composed of kerosene, diesel, gasoline, and heavy oils, that can be used for incinerators and other uses where refined gas is not needed. You may think that with such an industrial process, the air around the machine would be very toxic. Impressively, it is not. The machine sends the gas resulting from the process into a gas filter, which breaks it down into H20 and CO2. Hardly any smell escapes.

Since the oil resulting from the first machine is unrefined, Blest also manufactures machines to refine the oil, the BOR-20 and BOR-50, so that it can be used in other applications such as running your car.

Currently, Blest has been selling their machines either to schools, for educational purposes, or to factories in Japan. They are looking to expand into the U.S. market. So what do you think? Will this become a new solution to our energy crisis?
