AlumiFuel Power Inc. will begin shipping out its first hydrogen generator capable of generating 1,000 liters of hydrogen in 20 minutes in a cheaper way compared with other systems.
AlumiFuel Power, which is in the early stages in the business of generating hydrogen gas, will have its production line ready for its PBIS-1000 model, through a partnership with Alex Piping Systems.
Customer deliveries are expected to begin in early 2010.
AlumiFuel’s hydrogen generator was initially designed to inflate weather balloons, but the company said the quality of hydrogen the PBIS-1000 reactor generates is easily adaptable to fuel cells that use hydrogen as fuel.
The reactor relies on chemical reaction between aluminum, water and proprietary chemical additions to create hydrogen. These ingredients are contained in two 32-ounce “aluminum can” cartridges loaded into the reactor vessels. Water sources, such as saltwater, are poured into a water tank.
The system does not need external power sources, AlumiFuel said, adding that the generator is more mobile and less expensive than other hydrogen generating systems in the market.
AlumiFuel Power is a Philadelphia-based alternative energy company that generates hydrogen gas and steam for uses that require onsite and on-demand fuel sources. It has also ventured into biotechnology research.
