Awesome site Burp. Congrats to you on quitting as well. I've never been a smoker and can only imagine how hard it is to quit. I'm no angel and no pro athlete myself but we all have the greatest gift of all "Life" and its worth living for. I've often told myself about eating better and working out more that if it just gives me one more day on this earth. One more day with my wife, family, friends, kids if you have them of course. If it just gave you one more day wouldn't it be worth it?

Great job Burp! That is what it is all about. Quitting smoking is a lifestyle for you and your family. They will have you in their lives longer and that in itself is a blessing. $heff

Hey gang, Just wanted to share a story with the smokers out there....

It happened out of the blue. Markets were closed and the message boards were quiet....no action. So while surfing the net looking for new stocks idea's ....having a smoke....I stumbled across a site that would change my life.

Now trust me I have nothing to do with this site nor is there any thing in it for me....but if a guy who smoked over a pack a day for over 25 years can quit in week after finding this website I feel obligated to my fellow smokers to a least take the time to write one post that may help someone quit.

Here was the initial link/story I stumbled across....it really hit a nerve with me as I always had an imagine of myself as a smart and fit guy and was going to live a long life because I was in control and cancer happens to other people.

After I read that story and saw the before and after pics that were only 2 months apart...It got me thinking...in fact I had knot in my stomach....that could be me in 2 months.......and I have an 9 year old son an 11 year old daughter an awesome wife....and the best job.....what the hell am I thinking?

Suddenly stocks and making $$$ was not important......I needed to know more....

I was amazed to see this man Joel Spitzer who has compiled this huge library of video lesson's has now made them all free.....yes I know free is a loosely used term but here is the link.......don't have to sign up...no email address nothing just click and watch.... http://www.whyquit.com/joel/

Most video's are just a few minutes long and are jam packed with info..the first one I watched was "learning how to smoke"...I felt like a fool after I watched it.....because I was a fool.

I spent that day watching many of Joels video's and by the time I was done I was a wreck....I couldn't believe how blind, stupid, arrogant, selfish, foolish I had been. Everything I had worked for..all my plans and dreams...my family....needless to say it was scared thinking since I had already smoked for 25 years it maybe too late. Well it's been 2 years 9months 22 days 9hrs 12 mins and 33 secs since I quit that day. I have not smoked 24,698 cigs I have saved 86 days of my life and saved $5,237.... How do I know that? Because I put a quit counter on my desktop so everyday I can see how long it's been since that fateful day when the markets were closed and my life changed.

Here is the link to the main website http://www.whyquit.com/ I urge anyone who smokes to take a minute and just browse thru the site....

Here is a link to the quit counters http://www.whyquit.com/whyquit/LinksDMeters.html

In closing I just want to say that I had no idea I was going to quit smoking that day....but I do know why I quit that day...It was fear...I was scared. Being in control and having a plan has been the key to my success with many things, but I suddenly realized I had a silent deadly partner. A partner who could steal everything away from me within a few months....a partner who had more control of my desitny than me and I didn't like that.. That was all it took for me to kick that habit...in fact it wasn't very hard because I never viewed cigarettes the same way....it had all changed...they were the enemy. I got it!

Good luck to anyone who is trying to quit and don't stop trying.....

p.s. BTW I don't miss the midnight coughing...the hacking and throat clearing all day....I don't miss the stinky car...house...clothes....my blood pressure is normal again....my heart rate is normal...food taste better...you get the idea...

As an aside...This is how powerful nicotine is....I too quit cold turkey over 10 years ago...sometimes if Im stressed...or smell a cig at just the right moment and right situation, I can still feel the sensation as the smoke hits my throat on inhale. It truly is crazy that the body can crave or simulate that experience after so many years of not experiencing it.

I run 2 miles E.O. day and 150+ push-ups per day as well. No sugar and very minimal carbs (except veggies)...No gym needed and I feel great.

Great post...the $ aspect is really crazy as well.

Forwarded that information to a family member Burp-Thanks!

Trying to get a family member to quit after some frequent visits to the doctor so I am hopeful this information might be what the "doctor has ordered" to make that life saving step!

Much success and congratulations on your accomplishment thus far keep it up -:)

All the best!
