Actually, I think Generic has the best theory on it- but, I'll let him float it.

I was too hung up on the tax loss carry forward angle, missed outside US market theory.

OK.Simple question for everybody.Are you willing to buy a brand new car ( 300mph etc... ) for lousy 8K $? Yes you are.But are you willing to pay some 30-80K$ year maintence for this beast? No you're not.It's simply to costly.But are you willing to sell this monster for 1 M $ or more ?Damn , I'm pretty sure that everybody including me is.So this is the basic point of CAML story for me.
