Frog,
Just returned from a great vacation, hale and hearty.
An interesting event just occurred at my lakeside home.
A blue heron--a frequent visitor--stood and stood and stood, patiently waiting for we knew not what.
I was getting my camera to take a picture of him suddenly flapping his massive wingspan when my wife yelled from upstairs where she had a better view: Look!, he's got a frog.
Sure enough, I looked out and a large frog dangled from the heron's beak. He patiently waited until the frog's movements stopped, lowering his head a couple of times to press the frog against the ground--a gentle crush--, then flew away with his prey still clutched between the jaws of his beak.
It was a large frog, most likely the one which made the loudest courting sounds which disturbed my sleep on occasion.
I don't think it was an omen of anything, but one never knows, does one?
