No shit. They don't have JBII's catalyst which makes it so.

Dead wrong. JBII has made it clear fromn the beginning that they process all, mixed, unwashed plastics.

Rawnoc is correct that JB has stated that all types of unsorted plastics can be processed. This is the differentiator.

But the example given for HDPE which states that the collector/sorter of plastics can get as much, or more, selling the plastic to a customer/consumer of recycled plastic than if he threw it into a JBII processor and sold the oil to a refiner should not be taken lightly. This is the concern I have had when I have brought up competition for plastic.

It is the advantage of not requiring sorting of the plastic that is important for JBII. The company needs to lock down sources of plastic that are NOT currently being recycled.

Fortunately, over 70% of plastic is not recycled. So there is a large problem that recycling is not addressing and which JBII can capitalize on.

But they need to figure out how to tap into those streams of unrecycled plastic.

Going after the commercial plastic that businesses pay to have carried away is a good start.

I will be interested to hear the details of where plastic for JBII's processors will sourced.

The more uses there are for waste plastic, the more valuable the waste becomes. It is naive to believe that JBII will not have competition for waste plastic.

I am a little confused about D3ling's recent post stating that a catalyst for PET has been found (see James Parker's JBI Global Blogspot: http://jbiglobal.blogspot.com/2010/01/p2o-works-on-pet.html). Specifically: "I asked JB about this and he says the PET catalyst is done."

I guess I'm not understanding how the processor works. I was under the impression that you throw a bunch of (dirty) unsorted plastic in along with the chemicals and catalyst, and out comes oil. Now I'm told that there is a PET catalyst?

So how specific to the type of plastics being processed must the catalyst be? Can the PET catalyst be added to the "other" catalyst that we have been discussing all along to process PET mixed in with other plastics?

Or is there a sorting process required before processing?
