The impressive gains made by others weren't even the biggest among firms focused on homeland security. Implant Sciences
(IMSC) was up 325% on Wednesday afternoon and 450% by end of day*. Implant Sciences' trading volume of 1.3 million shares versus an average trading
of 59,000 is very notable.

Implant Sciences Corporation (AMEX:IMX) develops and commercializes explosives trace detection (ETD) solutions for transportation, critical infrastructure, and ports and borders security, as well as force protection and emergency response.

Founded in 1984, Implant Sciences has a rich history of developing leading technologies in several markets including: ion implantation services for the semiconductor industry; brachytherapy seeds for prostate cancer treatment; and sophisticated coatings to reduce wear on orthopedic joint replacements.

By the end of 2008, as part of the company’s restructuring towards a single business focus, the medical and semiconductor businesses and associated assets were fully divested. The company today is a pure play in global Security, Safety, and Defense (SS&D) markets.

Product and Technology Overview

Implant Sciences’ ETD solutions employ photonic non-radioactive ionization, patented non-contact sample acquisition, and automatic continuous self-calibration to detect parts-per-billion levels of explosives vapor and sub-nanogram quantities of explosives particulates of military, commercial, homemade, and improvised explosives. Key benefits include high-performance, high-reliability, and high-availability combined with ease-of-use and very low costs of ownership.

Our flagship product, the QS-H150 Portable Explosives Detector is a market leader with over 700 systems deployed worldwide. Two major new products are planned for release in 2009, both of which will offer significant improvements in operational efficiency while lowering operational costs. For the future, our Advanced Technology Group - with funding from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security - is developing and combining multiple and complementary sensor technologies to reach new levels of sensitivity and selectivity.

Not interesting but self interest. The hot stocks are often ones with gigantic floats with an army of shareholders/pumpers. This stock won't be contained, regarless of the lack of buzz.
