You are right and I am wrong and if I don't agree I must be a stupid, uneducated, thoughtless whacknut.

by taking such an intractable position you invite the vitriol you found so displeasing elsewhere. And in a sad sort of way you gain satisfaction when your opponents drop to your level and return the favor using their crude responses as "justification" for your initial assessment.
