suppressing forest fires is largely to blame for the present catastrophic fuel loadings now present in much of the west.
Fire adapted ecosystems minus fires equals a whole other set of limiting factors coming into play, most of which people don't like... such as insect epidemics, disease outbreaks, and dead fuel loadings of over a hundred tons per acre in otherwise productive forest ecosystems.
