aldaka, I am by far no expert, but I have observed on some stoks that normally trade in small lots that the larger trades will often result in multiple sales or buys. Maybe it is because of the extra cost associated with those extra transactions. My broker does not charge extra when an order gets split up....
The fee structure of your broker is not based on his costs. It is based on what he can get the public to pay. It probably doesn't cost him anymore to handle a larger share order, but they are in business to make money.
