few is used to refer to a small number but more then one. Several would refer to a small number but larger then a few. A couple is used to refer to about two.
When a person who knows proper usage of the english language uses the term few it is more then a couple but less then several which is still a number whch can be counted on one hand.
Had he wanted to say it would be longer he would have stated in terms of months. He was trying to give an honest time frame and did not want to raise expectations only to have them dashed in a fort night. JMO
