chartist1: Not that I'm a guru but, your first question there is as old as the beginning of time around here. Your second question is right behind the first...old as the dirt in the corners of this chatroom.

Definitely MSFT knows of NeoMedia and their patents since I've been around here. The Great PP himself introduced them. Can't definitively say about Google.

No reason for a buyout whatsoever at this point especially once (yes, I said once) Neustar is officially announced to be the way in/out of the MBM.

"Pedestrian management"? "Low-key", yes. "Pedestrian", no.

Regarding their your statement, "technology siting on their shelf gathering dust". Ever hear of the phrase, "Don't put the cart in front of the horse", that's exactly what we have there. Their technology, if you haven't noticed, relied on two major things occurring first: 1) wide-spread proliferation of cell phones w/ cameras and, 2) wide-spread uptake by the consumers of wireless data plans. I'm surprised that didn't occur to you. If you think they could've seriously had wide spread uptake on their technology before those two things occurred, please enlighten us all.

If you try really really hard, chartist1, I'm sure you can come w/ some more creative and original "brutally sober" questions.

Chartist:

1. and 2.: NeoMedia's methodology is a design-around of the older idea of embedding the destination directly into the barcode. Google uses this older direct embedded method. Microsoft uses a variety of the direct method. Surprising to some, NeoMedia still uses the direct method today, but is planning on using their proprietary indirect method in the future. Scanbuy is now offering both indirect and direct embedded options. So the answer is that returning to the basics is the design-around - not some futurist design. I believe that in the very near future (it is already beginning), a change in the camera lens will increasing drive consumers to use 1D barcodes over 2D. Specifically, most mobile scans will be using the UPC, JAN, EAN, etc. This could make the older direct methodology less and less desirable.

The CEO stated he had one call with Microsoft. One of the posters is a former Google employee and he confirmed there was a meeting with Google and NeoMedia, but there was not a need for NeoMedia in the Google design.

So, Google and Microsoft are unlikely candidates for either licensing or partnerships. However, as camera lens become better, the opportunity may be more attractive.
