Another point. AMD is pretty much sharing almost the same core between $1,500 Opterons and $90 Semprons. Do they want to put all those RAS features on the chip, which has to be sold at $90? It will be a lot of disabled circuitry on each chip...

The volume is low because the only contenders for the market (besides Opteron) cannot leverage economies of scale and produce affordable (relatively speaking) products.

And "huge requirements"? Be specific, and "RAS features" is not specific.
