The best way to answer that is if you had knowledge of what sort of superior products lost out to a mediocre one due to poor management decisions.
IBM, when they were still designing the first PC, had initially wanted to go with the recognized leaders in the processor and OS business; Motorola's 6800 and Digital Research's CP/M. Management gaffs led to IBM going with MS-DOS and the 8086 instead.
How about Sony's refusal to address Beta's only Achilles heel, recording capacity over the inferior VHS?
